Present ... Sports and Culture ...
The town and its surroundings provide ample leisure time opportunities for its residents as well as its visitors. The local sports grounds which have a natural recreational character, are noted for their high quality and equipment.
During the summer months it is Tyrs’s outdoor swimming pool, one of the largest in Bohemia, which offers its visitors excellent bathing facilities. With the exception of July and August, you can go swimming in an indoor swimming pool where the regular training sessions also take place. The town can also boast of a newly reconstructed athletics and football stadium which are largely used by schools as well as sport teams and individuals. The largest spectator sport ground in town is the motor-racing circuit. Both national and international motorcycle and go-kart races are being held here every year. You can also find a go-kart hire service, skate-park, children’s traffic playground, voluntary fire brigade stadium and racing driver school.
In addition the town hosts a multitude of cultural events that span throughout the year, including the Regional Museum and Municipal Art Gallery that is open daily all year round. Over 400 musicians come here every May to take part in the National Children’s Brass Band Show known as Čermák’s Vysoke Myto. The traditional festival of culture, sport and friendship called ENTREVUE International Days of Partnership are regularly held every year, in the months of June and September. The international art exhibition in the bell tower gallery is also a part of the ENTREVUE. The opening and closing of the exhibition links both parts of the festival. But the most noteworthy holiday event is the festival called The Music Week (Týden hudby), first held in 2000, which attracts more than 2000 spectators every year.
It is the beautiful scenery that surrounds Vysoké Mýto that makes it perfect for walks and cycle rides. A historically important village named Vraclav is located not too far away from the town. The Baroque church of St. Nicholas dated from the 18th century is situated in the village, featuring its distinctive wooden Baroque sculptures. Situated in near-by Dobrikov you can find the Orthodox wooden church dating from 1669, which was relocated in 1930 from Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia. The Nové Hrady Chateau, located 16kms from Vysoke Myto, is known as “Czech Versailles” and belongs to the most beautiful Rococo chateaux in Bohemia.
